About Indigo
Indigo Art
These paintings are created with large mop brushes using indigo pigment, including watercolor and dyes. The brush strokes are broad and left to be seen as part of the art. Found objects, palette knives and fingers are used to create the basic landscape design. Smaller brush strokes are added for detail. To finish, the art is extended onto the mat with fine brushwork.
Indigo art is especially appropriate to Hilton Head Island and it is a special memento to the area because Indigo was a cash crop grown on the islands of the Low Country of South Carolina during the pre-civil war era. Indigo pigment and images of the low country combine as the inspiration for this very special art.
Caren's Indigos are perfect for coastal decor no matter where you live and are inspired by her home in the low country as well as up north in the mountains of New Hampshire.
